What’s the first thing you do in the morning? Ever switched off your alarm and immediately dived into your emails, texts, Facebook or Instagram – only to later ask yourself why you feel so uncentered or overwhelmed? The way you start your day sets the tone for the entire day.
If you want to make one change that will have a positive impact on your health and life, it’s to get a morning routine! Trust me, it’s worth getting up 30 minutes earlier so you can set the tone for the day ahead. Morning routines are also like a reset button, no matter how horrible the day or night before was, you know that each morning you can start fresh and reset yourself. Over time your morning routine becomes an almost mindless activity to start every day. It becomes a ritual
You begin to look forward to this time to yourself where you can just let go of whatever happened the day before and just do your morning routine. It’s a form of self-love, a time to unwind and relax, no matter what else is going on in your life.
We have all day long to focus on others, so why not set aside 30 minutes every morning for yourself? Why not start every day reminding yourself that you are the most important?
When you create a morning routine, every morning when you wake up you’re consistently striving to improve your overall wellbeing. Here are 4 simple morning routines to get you started for optimal health.
1. Feed your mind with gratitude and positivity
While it’s key to get your body ready for the day, setting a positive mindset is just as important and will affect your energy and productivity. Spend 5-10 minutes each morning upon waking (before checking emails and social media) feeding your mind with something positive, this could be done by journaling, gratitude writing, visualization or saying/writing positive affirmations, practice a mindfulness practice such as meditation or read an inspiring or motivating book.
2. Upon waking hydrate and alkalise your body
We often wake up dehydrated and acidic. Drinking a big glass of warm water with the juice from ½ a lemon (before breakfast) will help to stimulate your digestion, hydrate and alkalise your body and also help support your liver in the processes of breaking down and removing toxins in your body. It’s also a great source of vitamin C.
3. Move your body for 30 minutes
It’s so important to get your body moving. Exercise also releases endorphins to make us feel good! Focus on movement as opposed to intensity, and 30 minutes is all you need! Walking, jogging, a HIIT if you’re feeling good, weight or resistance training or a long stretch or yoga at home are all great options.
4. Energise and nourish your body with a superfoods breakfast
When your body is fuelled the right way, your energy levels and performance in all areas of your life improve, helping you to become the best version of yourself.
An easy, quick and nutritious breakfast which you can make in less than 5 minutes is a Super Me shake. All you need is one sachet of Super Me powder, ½ cup berries, 1 banana, 1 tbsp nut butter, 1 cup water or almond milk, blend and you’re good to go!
Preparing this wholesome meal will leave you feeling energized and happy. This can help you to make positive food choices throughout the day. When we feel good, we often make better choices. Don’t forget to take the time to sit down, be grateful and enjoy this meal, even just for 5 minutes!
Practice this routine every morning, and soon it’ll become so habitual that you won’t even have to remind yourself to do it. Try this out and let me know how you feel!
